I'm Shae McKenna — a software engineer working across machine learning and systems. I care about how things are built at the level where decisions compound: architecture, interfaces, the seams between layers.
My work lately has been focused on ML infrastructure — the machinery that sits between a trained model and something useful happening in the world. Before that, I spent time writing lower-level systems code, which is probably why I still reach for Zig when I want to think clearly about a problem.
Outside of engineering I read broadly — philosophy, mathematics, fiction — and I write when something won't leave me alone. I'm drawn to ideas that resist clean resolution: incompleteness, self-reference, the boundaries of formal systems.
I built this site by hand. No frameworks, no build step. It felt right for something personal to be constructed personally.
